Du klingst als hättest Du eine Klobürste in Deinem Arsch! "You sound as if you have a toilet brush in your arse!"
Who hasn't heard of American Idol? Well, the above statement is from the German version of it, known as Deutschland Sucht Den Superstar. Or in English; Germany searches for a superstar. The show's panel of judges stars as its Simon Cowell the very-mean and-cold-" Dieter Bohlen. Anyone recall or ever heard of him? He was in a band called Modern Talking in the 80's and their most popular song is You're My Heart - watch here -remember it? I admit, I find most of his comments funny and I laugh at the poor kids but most leave the show crying and end up traumatised. Asked if he doesn't care about the damage some of his hurting even brutalising comments could cause; he answered that someone had to tell those kids the truth, because their parents and friends tell them only what they'd like to hear. I noticed the lesser talented or zero-talented at all are the most confident. What I also noticed is the resemblance of the characters of the candidates of the German verus the American one ( watch videos in links) Deutschland Sucht Den Superstar (DSDS) is the most popular show right now and partly or mostly because of those who make fools of themselves. Why do human beings find joy and amusement in other's misery? There are those who truly deserve to be laughed at, like this one because really; what in God's name are they thinking? But these poor people did not deserve to be laughed at (different show) for operations gone bad! We love to be entertained but at what cost? Take the Gladiators for instance; people enjoyed watching them kill each other. In the Middle Ages, hanging, stoning etc was a very popular kind of entertainment watched even by kids! I grew up with no TV in Kisumu until 1982. During that time, my (our) only "entertainment" was when people died or got hit by cars. We were always the first at such scenes.(my brothers, my sister and friends). I am not sure what was so interesting but then, it was more than interesting. I have never forgotten any of the scenes but two of them are so present in my head as though they occurred yesterday. We were playing kati or mpira (dodge-ball) outside our compound that was very close to the main road - we had no fence - when a pick-up drove by fast hooting non-stop. - my brother ran to see what was wrong and suddenly screamed saying the car had hit a woman. What do we do? We run to the scene! The car had hit her, turned upside down and lay on her. It had also hit a wall. ( another woman came running out of the whole on her wall wearing a petticoat screaming and went to get the police...she looked liked she'd lost it!). Good Samaritans pushed the car off the woman bringing it upright. She was still alive and her limbs were moving slightly in slow motion. Some adults said " don't look at her, ochieni " (she's cursing you). The other incident is less dramatic. I was on my way to visit a friend who was admitted at I think Lumumba Hospital? Am not sure. Anyway, on the way to his ward I had to pass the mortuary and believe it or not, the door was wide open! So I walked into it and looked inside. I stood there for at least half an hour looking at dead bodies in something that looked like shelves. The one I remember most was one of a young man who wore only red sports shorts with white stripes at the sides. He had dried-up blood all over his body and he had a head injury too. He must have died in a car accident. He's body looked swollen too-RIP. I was six years old and I still have nightmares when I think of him. But believe it or not, I still ran to such scenes even though I could not sleep for ages. What am trying to say is; would we be killing each other for pleasure if we didn't have the kind of entertainment we have today? Are we just ticking bombs waiting to detonate? We have PlayStations that have replaced the gladiator shows with the same brutality only it is done in cyberspace!? Some experts blame school killings/shootings on such PlayStations. Is it in our genes to want such entertainment so badly that we find joy and amusement in places and situations that they shouldn't be? Look at shows where people are asked to eat worms or cockroaches for $20....what is so entertaining about that? But such shows are made because the majority want to watch them! As for DSDS/American Idol; it is very entertaining but I think the judges are a little too harsh!

I am just wondering, how big was this mortuary, or alternatively how deeply were you studying the bodies?
