Poet Mike Kwambo pulls the strings on our series on K-Street otherwise, called NairobiI's Red Light District. This poem could as well be meant for performance. Read on.
These are the private thoughts
Of a public man
On Koinange Street
I must be discreet
As I deal with my lust
Using a packet of trust
Using a packet of trust
I betray the trust
That my people...my friends...my family...my spouse -
Have put in me .
As I rip off Waithera's blouse
I think about my payrise
And other things that cant rise
And wonder if it were wise
To play around with my wife
And put risk on my life.
To hell! Koinange fills me with life
Koinange fills me with life
But still some things will not rise
Viagra's good they advise
But still some thing will not rise
If you saw me on Koinange you were advised
By my enemies out to spread lies.
These are the private thoughts
Of a public man - a public man who is frustrated
Because every day it is demonstrated
How impotent and incompetent - he is
In my impotence and incompetence
I am unable to serve my constituents
And I look for the active ingredients
The active ingredients - obtained
By not being prudent
And being a student of Koinange Street - women
I pass a bill not to ban their activities - and
On Viagra I impose a tax freeze
Now I indulge my wife and Waithera with ease
These are the private thoughts
Of a public man .
