The president of the TFG, the Transitional Government was quoted in the papers earlier lamenting that the government's MPs had taken to making their home in Nairobi, escaping the pressing challenge of the Al-Shahab who were threatening to take the entire country, and who had the government pressed on all sides defending now just Mogadishu and Baidoa (the seat of the government).

Today, Internal Security Minister George Saitoti closed the border officially and there are reports of troops collecting along the border to take the battle to Al Shahab, or perhaps to prevent trouble crossing over to the Kenyan side. One of the 9 pm news reports actually reported that there were elements in the military itching for battle!

Meanwhile, the piracy off the Somali coast continues unabated with the little Robin Hoods now reaching a total of 30 mn USD in ransom collections. A group of them was displayed on television, having been handed over by British personnel patrolling the coast. a British Minister declared on television that the pirates were now going up to 500 miles into the ocean to get their prey. Fully 32 of this year's 96 attempted hijackings have been successful, including the mammoth bite of a 7.2 billion oil cargo in a Saudi tanker.
