A Sex Craze Hits The Nation! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Collins Mbalo

It is often said sex sells but little is said of how sex kills....perhaps this attitude may just be behind the sex craze that is apparently beginning to manifest itself outrightly within the republic! Note the following interesting items that have just hit our media portals of late!

  • Today morning one of the news items on a local radio station was that a study conducted in a Kenyan Church revealed that 1 out of 10 married Kenyan men are having an extra marital affair...now that's not a figure you would expect to get in a church but again factors as to the size of the church come into play.
  • The Standard today reports that annually around 1,000 Kenyan women are trafficked to Germany for sex trade, ponography and other illicit acts. CRADLE a Kenya human right's group (youth at Kenyan party) reports that child abuse/Defilement cases of youth aged between 10-14 years has increased in middle class neighbourhoods such as South C, Buru Buru, Kilimani, Utalii, Ridgeways, and Westlands amog others.
  • Wednesdays' Morning Maina Kageni's talk Show on Classic 105.2 Fm featured an advert on one of the local dailies classifieds about a prostitution den in Komarock /Umoja where one can get to witness one, two, three or even five lesbians having sex at the price of Kshs 5,000 (about 70 US Dollars) per hour. And what was shocking was that this live sex shows were prevalent in almost all the middle class neighbourhoods within Nairobi.  Most of the participants are young teenagers.
  • Both Kenyan dailies, the Nation and the Standard Newspapers, had to pull out the personals and beauty classified sections afer the same featured brazen adverts for escort services, massage parlours, prostitution (gay, lesbian,bi sexual services), local ponographic adult DVDs, Kenyan swingers website links,  sex enhancement products, among others.
  • But what shows the extent of moral degradation and corruption that has been embraced as normal is the fact that posters don the city centre advertising local adult DVD's (to make it more raunchy they describe them as featuring Luhya, Kamba ,Kalenjin, and Taita girls) available for home delivery complete with phone number at almost every corner on Kimathi Street or Moi Avenue. Church keshas with savvy gospel music have in some instances been the precipice for orgies (happened with the Israelites when they adopted Caananite festivals and danced under the large trees and before the disgusting images of baal of peor that featured the male and female sexual organs. They even had an official temple prostitute remember-there is no new trick that Satan uses, just same old, same old !)

The country seems to be pre-occupied with sex and its trade at almost all levels of society, the music, the entertainment, the adverts, the tv shows, local mini -series you name it one would think that we have just discovered sex!Nude bars/table top strippers are now not a preserve of the West but right at the heart of the City Centre as entertainment joints ( Liddos and Apple Bees etc). And they have the audacity of advertising on local media despite stringent criminal and prohibitive legislation such as the Penal Code!

What is perhaps disheartening is the fact that the many school going teenage girls and boys are being recruited into this vice when they can hardly make an informed decision. Further is the fact that due to unemployment, rampant and high competition for the limited university employment...wanton sex and drug abuse has become the pasttime for many youths.

Like Bernie Mac would say: KENYA ! RIGHT THERE YOU ARE SITTING ON A PROBLEM! The challenge now falls primarily on parents, the religious leaders, society, and the government in that peking order!

What?

I am going to agree with some of what the comment above says. One, that we take sex too seriously! It is a fact of life, and people should be free to express themselves as they please.

Secondly, I will agree with some of what the author says. That when teenagers engage in any activities of sexual behavior, then a society needs to be worried, because it is a worrying trend, esp when they are ill-equipped on sex education.

At the same time, let me stress, that sex is a personal matter, and when using contraceptives really, let's not worry about the 'decaying moral of society" when there are real MORAL issues afflicting Kenyans such as violence against women, terrible labor laws, tribal discrimination, and second class citizenship status for persons with disabilities.... among many other things. Let's not get hang up about sex.... .

I strongly believe that sex is a grave issue when our very own Kenyan children are being solicited as sex pets and our women sold off to foreign countries.Indeed, it is our own ambivalent attitude that is fuelling this form of slavery in the 21st century. Just when the likes of Obama are restoring the dignity of the Africa, many are willing to sell it off in pursuit of a 'Western' world right here at home. We are duty bound to rise up and defend children and women in order to guarantee a future for future generations.

ARE YOU CLUELESS???
written by iStone , November 23, 2008
How far behind ARE you??? Do you actually BELIEVE that this "sex craze" has JUST hit the nation of Kenya? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??? AIDS IS KILLING KENYANS AT AN ALARMING RATE, AND HAS BEEN FOR DECADES! LITTLE GIRLS AS YOUNG AS 5 YEARS OF AGE ARE SOLD FOR SEX BY THEIR PARENTS IN ORDER TO HELP THEM PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE. THIS, TOO, HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR DECADES! The "sex craze" in Kenya is nothing new. The media covering it is new, but the craze has been going on for way to long to even remember. It is part of the curse and downfall of this beautiful nation. Corruption, sex, corruption, sex, corruption, sex. Nobody is immune from it, either. How many of you female readers have been forced into sex by a man, say, a pastor, a neighbor, a politician, a family member? How many of you are sexually harassed at work? How long has this been going on? Have you heard stories of your mothers and grandmothers enduring the same sexual abuse? Men, how many of your friends and acquaintances boast about their sexual exploits? How often do YOU boast to your friends/acquaintances of YOUR sexual exploits? THIS "SEX CRAZE" IS CRAZY, AND IS NOTHING NEW!!! IT MUST STOP, OR KENYA WILL CEASE TO EXIST.

yes, clueless about sex in Kenya
written by clueless about Sex , November 24, 2008
So where do I start? Sex, whether in the West or Kenya has been an intriguing topic. It is not surprising that many people would rather discuss matters of the bedroom in the confines of the bedroom. On the other hand, it is nothing new that there are "liberal" individuals who have less conservative views about sex (vague, redundunt, I know). Anyway, to my point when let adults be, as long as they are being safe. You cannot control this. Second, sex education as someone pointed out sex education is key in addressing sexuality in teens. We cannot not talk about sex, and then be surprised when we discover that our teens are sexually active. It is natural for them to be sexually inquisitive (remember Home Science?), so equip them with the necessary tools.
Another point: I think there are more men cheating on their wives, and church has nothing to do with it.
For a country that violates serious human rights violation issues, we spend too much time wondering about sex. (btw, KI admin this looks superb on my mobile)

i verily agree with clueless to some extent but firmly believe that both morality and human rights issues rank in parri passu and none can be neglected over the other. But i take great exception at Jim Bobs comment-terrorism and religious extremism has become a "normal" human affair but that doesnt mean that we embrace it, does it?

collinsom92,
Protection of human rights and the enforcement of a moral code are two very different things. Governments are (or should be) rightly concerned with the former but should keep their mitts off the latter.

sex is like a daily bread among the youths in kenya nowadays
written by catherine , October 28, 2009
for the youth in kenya its like a daily activity for them as they are exposed to explicit media coverage for instance internet is everywhere so with their exposture to this its much easier for them to access pornographic matterials and try to put them into practise
