I set out to write a story, only to find out that a movie with the same idea had been made. The movie, an adaptation from a book, was made so long ago that it has since been remastered. I couldn't write the story as a remake of a remastered movie made from a book. That would be silly. Having not seen the movie, I couldn't present the idea as a sequel because that too existed. The sequel had spawned its own sequel, which--as one would expect--led to a prequel. The prequel, the 4th movie in the series, was--quite unexpectedly--said to be better than the first movie which had been adapted from a book. So I thought about reimagining the movie, which sounds frivolous: it would be my first imagination not my reimagining. But the reimagining had been done in yet another book. My principles wouldn't allow me to write about an idea that resembles the reimagined story found in a book tackling a movie adapted from a book. That would be a bit watered down. So I chose to write a book inspired by true events. The true events being the not-so-original movie based on a book. I watched the movies. All 4 of them. I wasn't inspired once. Ok, maybe for a second. I was watching the prequel and caught a split second of unintentional brilliance. But it was masked in so much shit that I can't remember what it was.
