Weekly Voices from the Kenyan Blogosphere: The Public Sphere PDF Print E-mail

This week I will only feature three blogs. This is not due to lack of material blogs to work with but because these three are more or less in the same field if I can call it that.  Also, these sites are not just blogs. Read on to see what I mean.

Kuweni Serious is a website that launched in October, I think, whose raison d etre is to discuss with sincerity and a serious attitude issues in Kenya.

The site comprises mostly of video interviews with popular figures in our country, from music, politics etc.  They have interviewed Blinky Bill from Just a Band and Emmanuel Dennis, the convenor of National Youth Convention among other others.

This is how they describe themselves:

And so we at Kuweni Serious – we’re a bunch of kids ourselves – have decided to go out there and find out: how do Kenya’s youth feel about all the chaos around us? Are we proud to be Kenyan or are we secretly wishing we could get green cards and disappear forever? Where shall we raise our own kids? Are we happy?

So are you happy?

My second profile is The TruthSlayer , an online radio show on Kenyan current affairs.  On their blog the current topic is the issue of the ICC prosecutor and how he has his sights trained on perpetrators of the post election violence in Kenya.

I find that it is a good concept, however, I am afraid the site's bandwidth hogs my connection.

Be sure to check them out and have your say on the various topics on discussion.

Finally, a brief profile on Gotissuez. Much like Getsatisfaction, Gotissuez allows consumers to air their grievances on the delivery of goods and services by Kenyan companies. The complaints on the site vary from the takeover of Nairobi pavements by banks to concerns that the new Tusker cans sold in Kenya are manufactured in Ireland.

Perhaps the best Gotissuez feature is that companies can track customer complaints and follow up. Unfortunately, this great opportunity at branding is yet to be utilized by Kenyan companies.  It would be nice to see competitors use information from these complaints to gain a competitive advantage.

Gotissuez hopes to spur service providers into offering better services and having better customer care.

Check them out and tell me what you think.

Thanks Ngeny,

We're planning on approaching companies and hitting the ground running from next year, still in beta, so hoping we can iron a couple things out.

Besides that, you can find out al the different places we've been featured and stuff that's going on at our blog - http://blog.gotissuez.com

Thanks for mentioning our radio show. We appreciate that. Sorry that the show uses so much bandwith. I am in the process of working to have a streaming section of the show that will only require just Kbs of your bandwith. Thanks again
