This weekend the Imagine Company which is the publishing house of Kenya Imagine will participate with others at the Storymoja Hayfestival in Nairobi.
While at the conference, we will hold two workshops: one on citizen journalism and another on reaching under-represented and marginalized constituents of our nation.
Traditional media has largely restricted itself to professional journalists for its content provision. This has led to the exclusion of large parts of the population from the tasks of knowledge and information sharing.
The Imagine Company is an innovative portfolio media organisation that works to involve the wider public in the creation of a reformed society using modern technologies to construct widely-accessible platforms for the appreciation and analysis of user-generated content.
Our session on citizen journalism will explore the potential to create networks of informed, conscientious and responsible citizens that can hold government and other leadership to account.
On outreach to non-content creating constituencies The Imagine Company has in the past argued that media biases and silences on several important national issues have been caused by the exclusion of large sections of the population from creating the media narrative.
We are an innovative media company working to create a greater pool of potential contributors from the academy, professional life and the wider public. The company’s outreach efforts extend to marginalised communities like rural outposts and urban slums, where it is training citizens in media and writing skills. The company will run a public workshop showcasing this project, with some previous beneficiaries of the programme in attendance.
