Business Daily has published a must read on historical land grabbing and resettlement issues in post colonial Kenya.  Read the report (which you can download or opt to read on a full screen) in its entirety below. Some readers have complained about the speed of download, you can access it directly from Scribd here )

Miswriting history
written by Godfrey , November 23, 2009
I think the Business Daily article (later reprinted in the Daily Nation) was just meant to sensationalize the land distribution of the 1960s. After reading the article, I failed to see what crime had been committed. A group of political leaders buying land from departing white settlers doesn't qualify as a crime. The list of people shown as having bought land is fairly representative of Kenya's ethnic mix. There were Luhyas, Luo and Kalenjins buying land just as much as the Kikuyu. The principle of 'willing seller, willing buyer' was well established by independence.

In 1961, Dr Taaitta arap Toweett told the Kipsigis that anybody who wanted free land should go to and settles in Sahara Desert. He told them to form small land buying companies and buy big farms in the then White highlands. Most of them bought farms in the White highlands, and settled many families in areas like Londiani, Sotik, Kitale, Eldoret, Molo, Kedowa and Lembwa.

You can read more of this revelation here: bituary-dr-taaitta-araap-toweett&catid=51:community-leaders&Itemid=223'>http://www.kalenjin.net/newsite/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=790smilies/shocked.gifbituary-dr-taaitta-araap-toweett&catid=51:community-leaders&Itemid=223

There is also a fair rebuttal of the Business Daily and Nation stories here. http://www.nation.co.ke/oped/O...index.html
