The Kenyan government and key opposition leaders, ODM, have reached a breakthrough. Updated.
According to news reports, former UN Secretray General Kofi Annan will be holding a press conference shortly to highlight the specifics of the "breakthrough" in peace talks between the government and ODM. In a press conference Annan has said that warring parties have agreed to come to a political solution to end the current crisis in Kenya. Annan continued to say that the details of this agreement will be made public next week. Annan has also advised President Kibaki to convene parliament as soon as possible. Former Tanzanian president, Benjamin Mkapa, who is part of the mediation team headed by Annan, has called onto members of parliament to meet with members of the mediation team on both sides. In other news reports, William Ruto has held a press conference where he has said that an agreement has been made to have a joint government between the government and the opposition. ---------------------------------------------------------- Kenya's Internal Security Minister, George Saitoti, has lifted the ban on public rallies. According to a story published by the Associated Press, Saitoti made this decision following "improved security."
