From little known chairman of the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission to political tycoon in the blink of an eye, Stanley Livondo has captured the imagination of the nation.
Recently christened "Mr.
Money Bags", the little known aspirant for the Ikolomani parliamentary
seat has hit the political scene alight. His debut in an election year
with exorbitant financial has raised many eyebrows.
Until his 'raining
money' from a helicopter on Ikolomani's constituents, Mr. Livondo was
little known to the the national consciousness except as the Kenya Professional Boxing
Commission's chairman. Even less is known about the source of his sudden riches. Perhaps he should be compelled to declare his wealth (a suggestion for KACC's Ringeera).
His recent stunts return
our minds to 1992 when Cyrus Jirongo under the auspices of YK 92 poured out a lot of cash to the voting public. As a result the 500/-
note was christened "Jirongo". Gone are the days when the
lure of cash would drive voters into poll booths, their souls sold to the distributor of the largesse. The modern Kenyan wants more than the lucre from his leaders but considering the economic status of many Kenyans; flash money and they will eat it
voraciously, even if they will later bite the generous hand.
Interestingly,although Mr.
Livondo intends to run on a Narc-Kenya ticket, no statement has
been made by the party distancing itself from the political bribery
that the man is undertaking. Too bad, too sad! Fair minded Kenyans will
not be hoodwinked!
What startles though is why a party would (albeit
through an individual) want to ‘massively' bribe its way into
power? Would Kenyans anywhere want to see a repeat performance of the
Goldenberg scandal and the chaos that left the country reeling in economic,
social, political and moral despair? Are we not tired of heading the
same old same old mire of deceit, bribery ,corruption, poverty,
political deceit ...and the vice list continues.
For the political
advisors: Moi era tactics won't work! Look ahead and not behind: the
majority of the voters are young (some at heart), vibrant,
knowledgeable and intelligent! The learning experience has been bitter but they will dare not tread the same path again.
For the Kenyan voter: do you feel that your candidate hungers for power at all costs? There - that's the sign "SUFFRAGATOR CAVEAT!" Meaning translated : ‘Voter Beware'

In the papers yesterday, there was an attempt to unmask the man - including linking him to YK 92 and the sugar barons. But no one seems able to link a crime to his wealth only alluding to it being "sudden" which is really interesting as people do not know him "until his recent helicopter antics"!!
Unless we can prove that he has acquired his wealth illegally, is it right to condemn the man for spending his money as he wishes since this is what I am reading from Collin?
Last question - Would you demand of the same standards in ODM as you now demand of Narc-K?
