ODM-K leaders hand in nomination papers -video PDF Print E-mail

After weeks of wrangling over the composition of its electoral board, ODM-K members finally agreed on a team and began to hand in their nomination papers.

The formation of a nine member election board, to be chaired by retired justice Richard Kwach seems to have soothed concerns over the partiality of the board. It is not clear however that all the candidates have handed in their papers. The deadline has been set for Friday 25 th May. The video below shows Lang'ata MP Raila Odinga handing in his papers.

Really, this is just an exercise in futility. None of them is going to accept a decision that does not have them as the candidate. So why bother staying at all. It is Raila's party and they seem to agree that he is the problem.

Looks like it is all fun and games. Raila and Ida, smiles all around. I wish sometimes these people could show even an ounce of austerity, some respect for the people. Or is this what the people want? I am with Wainaina on this one, may Kalonzo leave the party and give us a true alternative.

Apparently the deadline has been pushed back even further because one of the most important ODM-K candidates Uhuru has not yet handed in his papers. The trouble it seems is that there are too many people with serious clout who cannot be displeased. Raila does seem at the moment to have both the financial wealth, the organisation and the desire to win the nomination, the question though is what this will cost him and ODM-K. The fall-out from the London trip that did not materialise seems to have galvanised the other candidates against him. In Balala, Musalia, Ojiambo, etc he has the weak candidates the ones who really do not count for anything. On the other side however are all the heavyweights, Ruto, Uhuru and Kalonzo.

Seems to me like Raila is a man whose past has caught up with him. What next?

No Raila, No ODM

Wanyama let me make quick corrections to the assertions you made. Uhuru is not that important to ODM and he knows it. Hence his dithering with handback his papers. For crying out loud, the man has not even campaigned in any part of the country! As Raila amply put it once, Uhuru is of sentimental value to ODM.
Kalonzo on his part is just playing politics in ODM but knows very well that he does not have the political and financial might to outfox Raila for the ODM nomination. His is just a case of when he will leave ODM and not if he will leave or not.
Ruto not playing ball with Raila as earlier expected has caused Tinga to look for other allies in Rift Valley. The is politics after all! What did he expect? For Raila to leave Rift Valley untouched and yet it has the most votes? If truth be told, if Ruto is the Kingpin in Rift Valley then it shouldn't really matter how many forays other candidates make into it. Infact Ruto should be encouraged to make more inroads into Nyanza, Eastern and central and build his own support instead of crying foul just because Raila has secured the support of key Rift Valley parliamentary aspirants.

The Wainainas and Kimeus of this world seem to think that Kalonzo is the best candidate. I respect their choice, but they should buttress it with demonstrable facts of capability. Fellow Kenyans, a president is for us all. Let us not allow cheap tribal bigotry to make us myopic. When there were land clashes in Rift valley, all tribes were affected (though Kikuyu most), same to run away inflation, insecurity and oppression. A good Kenyan leadership will benefit all of us, not only the tribe of the leader.

What I know is that if triballly-influenced decisions are allowed to influence nomination in ODMK, then Kenyan politics will never be the same again.Kenyans are wiser now than ever before. there can never be a people who only expect to be voted for, and cannot vote for others. if that is proven to be the case, they shall not be allowed to continue living among others other than their own. If Kenya is allowed to get this far, even the govt of the day shall not stop it. Rember the govt has been defeated to by Mungiki, and the Sabaots in Mt Elgon. If you think am a lesser being, and therefore unelectable, I will not allow you to be myneighbour, even if you bought the land for a million.
