Kenya Times reports that the Kenyan Ambassador to the US has declined to relinquish his seat, even after being asked by the Kenyan government to go back home.
Ambassador Peter N.R.O Ogego is not the only one who has defied a call by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to return to Kenya as their terms have ended. Other envoys are: High Commissioner, Joseph Muchemi (United Kingdom), and Ambassador Raychelle Owuor Omamo (France).
Perhaps you have heard of Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich , who would like to sell President-elect Barack Obama's senatorial seat to the highest bidder? Politics and corruption? Why are we surprised?
In recorded conversations with advisers, the governor, Rod R. Blagojevich, seemed alternately boastful, flip and spiteful about the Senate choice, which he crassly likened at one point to that of a sports agent shopping around a free agent for the steepest price, a federal affidavit showed. At times, he even weighed aloud appointing himself to the job, the prosecutors said.
Back to the Kenyan envoys, well, the Kenya Times reports that their sources claim that
Some ambassadors who have continued to cling in office even after their terms expired claimed they paid a lot of money to the then Narc Government to secure such positions and they have not recovered the amount they spent. Some ambassadors were insisting they can only leave office under the direct instructions of President Mwai Kibaki who appointed them.
In other news, 600 employess of Kenya's election commission have gone on hunger strike to protest the government's attempt to disband the commission. The commission's employees had the following to say to the commission:
We want to be heard. We don’t want blanket condemnation. If there are
people to go home it is the decision-makers. We are not answerable to
any decision
