Kenyans turned out in record numbers to vote for both their members of parliament and for the next president. As polling stations have closed, different media houses and organizations are tallying and reporting the numbers as counting begins.
Although these numbers are not conclusive, it is interesting to observe the development. Mzalendo reports on preliminary parliamentary votes. Both the Nation and Standard websites are difficult to access. However, graphs showing the total number of votes for each of the presidential candidates can be seen on the Nation's election page. KBC is streaming online through JumpTV. The Institute for Education in Democracy which conducted exit polls showing a Kibaki lead also have results updating on their site. IMS Kenya is streaming regular updates covered by KTN (one has to refresh the page for the latest update as they are not automatic). The Mars Group also lists comprehensive presidential and parliamentary results. A blogger Johnnie Mtembezi is reporting, from his blog, exclusively on the Rift Valley votes (look for the mp3 files on the right-hand side of the blog). Kenyans around the blogosphere continue to take account of the events on and after election day. On her blog, Kenyan Pundit , describes her first time as a voter while giving an assessment on some of the election results. The international press, as usual, has a different perspective on the elections. The TimesOnline writes here about the "violence, rumour, and tribalism that [has] dominated the Kenyan elections. Newsweek forgets that a democracy calls for an election regardless of the success of the incumbent: Messing with Success. The BBC has a Kenyan election spread that includes news updates and a time log kept by both voters and reporters.
