What next for Kenya?

An independent, impartial investigation (preferably under UN auspices) into how they managed to fit quite so many well-fed Kenyans onto the dais.

after UN/AU/US/EU/Githongo/Kiai unravel the puzzle of the well fed Kenyans on the dais, and if resources remain, maybe Ruto, Balala, etc, on the guillotine. if not, then a shared Nobel Peace Prize for them. and we forget.

Kikwete
written by Amir Ibrahim , February 29, 2008
Feather in the cap for Jakaya Kikwete. And for Mkapa and Tanzania as well who have shown real undugu. We must hope that we have not wrecked our reputation with Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda and so killed off the chances of a Federation soon. That would be a great loss, especially as that federation would take us many steps away from a repeat of this violence.

I agree with MkosaKabila, those who incited the hate must be made to pay, or else awarded. Kenyans really must be given the opportunity to make a choice, do they endorse murder, destruction and violence or do they want peace and development.

hmmm...should they include the publications of all the accounts of how much money has been spent "negotiating" and how many IDP's could have been fed in the meantime?

Hongera
written by Andrew , March 01, 2008
Hongera to those "hidden in the wings" who really signed the peace agreement for us. Thanks to those Brave Kenyan soldiers who spoke with the people and understood what we really needed. Thanks for the ring of steel made so graphic even the commoner n' thief could understand!!!

Thanks to the support from Tanzania, and it's readiness to pay even the ultimate price for a friend in need. Thanks to The U.K, the U.S.A and the E.U who were also willing to chip in; not just money and visa bans but boots on the ground.

Thanks all for standing in the wings with the people of Kenya. Thanks again, and THANKS!!!

As for Kibaki...you had no options really, you just had to sign or be in the Hague with your like minded friends. When it's your skin on the line you move, no kudos there.

As for Raila, you also had no options really, the deal was ready made and you had no means of your own to get Kibaki to sign. Thanks for the pressure though, it was key. You really may fit the Njamba title you so recently held, who knows!!!

The real power games are played way above the rabble, they neither understand nor comprehend, but are happy to live and be. Give them their due.

NARC 2002
written by Kim G , March 01, 2008
This deal reminds me of NARC 2002. Same players, same promises and a national media that trumpets the deal. Hopes of a new beginning raised amongst the citizens. Anyone who criticized NARC in 2002 was labelled as a traitor, unpatriotic, anti people, etc. Isn't the same bizarre plot playing itself out today like something out of some warped time machine.

You forget the international community, code word for the EU and the US, who were busy threatening us just a few days ago now applauding very loudly. What a farce!

Hypocrites
written by observer , March 01, 2008
Here we go again, the biggest issues will not be how to address the ECK failures and ethnic cleansing but if the executive PM should get a state house worthy of his post and whos motorcade should be bigger. These picture make me feel like pyuking, what hypocrisy!!!

Note to Observer
written by New Day , March 01, 2008
Observer,
Politics is called dirty because it makes sensitive people want to puke. The country is 'wasting' time going through these unchartered waters because of the work of ECK and its dreams to manipulate elections for the benefit of the incumbent.

Still, I am tempted to opine that the country had to cross this Rio Grande at one stage of its path to becoming a mature state. It is unfortunate that such a sacrifice, has included loss of life and displacement.

Both ODM and PNU are uncomfortable with this agreement atleast as far as their personal zeal and blind consideration of the other side is concerned. PNU would rather eat the whole cake; ODM would rather have a quota and later wiggle PNU out of the stake that stay out in the cold. In the book of judges, King David faces the dilemma of bending to the wishes of a woman who urges him to cut the baby into two and share it equally beyween 2 warring women; the real mother sacrifices the baby to the second woman who claims ownership. We have also heard it said that if something belongs to you and you let it go, it comes back to you. Sharing stakes usually betrays long term malice in the offing, as both protagonists buy time to scheme further afield. Thanks to local and international pressure, both ODM and PNU have been brought to a pact, however, am not convinced that this is the start of joy, I anticipate back door drama.

Gratitude.
written by Lloyd Mwaniki , March 03, 2008
Thanx.
i wish to thank our politicians espeially the honourables pres.Kibaki and ODM leader Raila Odinga for putting their personal interests aside to save kenya our beautiful country. I feel that a great responsibility is left to us Kenyans of different social backgrounds to start the process of healing. Each of us should realize that we can,t do without the other and live according to the stanza of our National Anthem that states tht we live in pace love and unity. we highly depend on each other despite the tribe we come from. Its good we've realised how good our country is before we lost it.
GOD BLESS KENYA.Thanks.
