If...

When I was about 10 years, I discovered the very famous poem IF... By Rudyard Kipling and even at that tender age- the entire poem made sense to me, it spoke to me and I understood it through the mind of a 10 year old child. I came across the same poem today when I was ruffling through my &

quot;old stuff" in the basement.

 I was actually quite amused that I actually had a poem book as young as 8 years old. I am so serious, I have the book over here with me and it is one of the 'KARATASI BRAND' - exercise book ruled single-160 pages. Too funny!!!

 Anyway, I had to re-write that exact poem IF... on here, that I so loved years ago-  believe it or not it still makes sense to me even better  than it did before ...

IF...

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,

If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew,
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;

If all men count with you, but none too much,

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

(Well including the females too- they could so use this inspirational words.)

and then he sent his son to the front in 1918. Did RK write this poem before or after waving his son goodbye?

Ummm... your point being? Better yet does it even matter? I just love the inspiration that I get from this poem/note (to date). Whatever decisions he made in his life... I guess he knows why he made his decisions, my opinion on that would matter at all and life goes on.

Youre most welcome

Awww Sofia, youre most welcome, I am one loyal fan to KARMA- what goes around comes around, if U do good then you get all the good the world has to offer, if you harm other people (physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritual) it all turns around like a boomerang and comes right back. I really do love this poem by Rudyard Kipling.

IF only we could try to do the stuff that the poem talks about then I think we'd truly be happy.. A very interesting poem right there..

@ kenyanblonde, right on, I like to refer back to this poem once in a while, its timeless & oh how I wish most people would just attempt to do a couple of the 'IFs..', the quality of life would definitely change for the better/best.

Blessings 2 U
