Kenyan politicians: Most trusted group by public?

My cognizant abilities must be failing me. And my sight! I just read an article in jana's Saturday Nation that "Kenyans trust politicians to bring about change and improve their lives even as they condemn excesses perpetrated by the political class, a new survey has found out." Pengine I am drunk, or high on something, but this does not make sense to me.

Disclaimer: Before I go ahead with my rant, I must confess. I have never trusted a survey conducted by the Nation or the Standard. It seems to me their demographic is generally, urban Nairobi, as if that represents the rest of Kenya.

All the same the people we trust most (and I am being very generous when I say we... because I know I don't, but my people do, and much as I hate their collective choices, I am one of them, dammit!)

The idiots at the Nation suggest that women are a threat to the two top most trusted people: Kibaki and Raila. Tell me, why are women such a threat? Specifically Martha Karua and Wangari Maathai? Can they not just be two trusted political personalities because they are capable, and not viewed as a threat by the THUG Raila, and SENILE Kibaki (pardon me, if I insult the fellows that you trust most, afterall, you voted them in, and fought tooth and nail for them during the post-election violence, and yes! they are making "deliveries" of sorts to you the people."  So Kibaki and Raila WATCH OUT! Women without blood on their hands will become more popular than you are (will they?)

Francis Otwoli, chief of COTU, makes it to the top ten. The man amuses me. And I remember his most from the sattirical skits of the comedic trio Redykulas.

Safaricom, I thought we had beef with their services? Kwani  how does chief CEO Michael Joseph rank as one of the most trusted peoples in Kenya?

Kenya Airways, the pride of Africa. Yes! They are! I understand completely! Good job Titus Naikuni and team! I am proud to fly KQ!

Archbishop Ndingi Mwana a’Nzeki also makes the top ten. This, I understand. We are a religious lot, such are the ironies of life. Please read Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Purple Hibiscus to understand these ironies and contradictions. Why are we so religious? yet sooo sinful (hhahahaha, I am not the one judging!)

Yay Pamela Jelimo makes the top ten too! She is phenomenal! At 18, she was awesome! at the Olympics.

Churchill, who I met a few years ago is admired by many Kenyans as the top entertainer. He is funny, I will give him that. Jua Kali, and Wahu are next on this list! Lakini a jamaa and a chile cannot sing for their life, although that song Wahu sang for her kiddo really pulled at my heart strings, it's beautiful... she won something at MTV Africa , and Kora Awards for it. Weee,  don't mess with me, I am up to date with my politics, as I am with my entertainment. I know what's up!!

Finally, a personality that the Nation insists on is Raila. He is the most trusted personality. He, who did nothing to stop the PEV. He who has done nothing within the coalition government to make sure that the needs of the wananchi are met. Yes, he who questioned Martha Karua when she wondered about the plight of the post election violence displaced persons. ) Karua, please do not disappoint me, and form a coalition with these buffoons. (yes, I said it!)

In case your thoughts are going tribal... no, I am not Luo, neither am I Kikuyu.. so really, I have no tribal allegiance to the most "trusted Kenyan", neither do I have tribal allegiance to any Kenyan tribe because I am a 'medley" of tribes and religion. But I am a concerned Kenyan, bila tribe, who wants Kenyan leaders that I can trust, and so far, I (expletive) trust noone.

trustes or influential
written by eagle , December 21, 2008
"trusted" should have been replaced with "influential". That would have made sense to this poll.My take is that when they set out to take this poll they did not clearly distinguish to the the "interviewees" between the "trusted" and "influential"Between Kibaki and Kalonzo or Raila i'll rather trust Martha Karua.

truth is stranger than fiction

This is a nice piece by Amina and like her I would have thought that politicians should rank at the very bottom of the pile perhaps just below lawyers, estate agents and newspaper editors. The only organisms worse than politicians are the architects of the current food shortages and price inflation that were facing. However we voted for them so we are stuck with them.

I was not quite sure whether Amina was being sarcastic about the National carrier too

Amina, I agree with you fully. I was so shocked when I read the article but I just dismissed it. In any case, I had lost hope in the Kenyan people since the election campaigns of 2007. KQ I believe, despite its flaws has done a good job so far.
