The Minister for Foreign Affairs regularly distinguishes himself as a bad public servant, as a thoughtless and irresponsible politician. He is regularly held to account by a media that has no allegiance to him, this is how a democracy works. The media informs us so we can hold politicians to account.

The incredible waste of public resources, and the insensitivity shown in the wake of the national food crisis, the teachers' strike and the overall state of the economy by the decision to travel to DC and watch Obama's inauguration on Television is shocking.

But what of this little saga, what to do when the media fails in its duty. The Prime Minister of Kenya visits the Indian State of Gujarat accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi, Agriculture Minister William Ruto, Roads Minister Chris Obure and Msambweni MP Kazungu Kambi. Yes, it is an ODM party, but it is also labelled an official visit and so paid for by your taxes.

The Minister for Trade and Industry, Uhuru Kenyatta was in Nairobi as was his Permanent Secretary. Even the Assistant Minister for Trade and Industry was in Nairobi, his name is Magara and he is ODM's Treasurer, or at least he was once.  The Kenyan Prime Minister in this joy ride was visiting Narendra Modi.

Kenyans would be interested to know who the man is, especially the many Kenyan Muslims who were won over by the Prime Minister's charms at the last election. They may be interested to read about Modi and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, or about his role in the massacre of 2000 Indian Muslims.

Terrorism has no place in modern society. Humanity has lost great leaders who would have changed the history of mankind to terrorists. But it is my conviction that terrorists should not be allowed to win and will never win.

There is also the small matter of 2,000 murdered Muslims, victims of a 2002 pogrom carried out by his Hindu-nationalist followers with the collusion of Gujarat's bureaucracy and police. This week the widow of a Muslim politician called Ahsan Jafri, whose limbs and genitals were hacked off and the rest of him burned alive, was due to file a petition in the Supreme Court, accusing Mr Modi of mass murder. There is little justice for Muslims in Gujarat. Only eight people have been convicted over the pogrom, mostly in neighbouring states. In Gujarat, some 2,000 cases remain pending. ...

That's not all there are more reports from Human Rights Watch ,  and from the US State Department which has banned Modi from travelling to the USA. Kenya of course revels in its dark ignorance.  The Times of India reports ,

"Human rights activists reported that the Gujarat police received specific instructions not to take action to prevent a possible violent reaction to the February 27 attack by Muslims on a train in Godhra," the report said.

"These observers asserted that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi personally told Ahmedabad police officials on February 27 to allow Hindus two days to react 'peacefully' to the Godhra incident. 

"The police reportedly told Muslim victims, 'We don't have orders to help you'," it said.

The US report also quoted extensively from the findings of India's National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to substantiate its charges against Modi.

"The NHRC held the Gujarat government responsible for the riots and accused it of a complicity that was tacit if not explicit," the US report said.

To wrap, your money was wasted in a trip that was labelled official but which had nothing of the makings of an official trip with no officials from the Trade Ministry or any state officials who could enter negotiations or signs agreements on behalf of the Kenyan people. This leisurely jaunt on your account was undertaken to visit a man of extremely questionable character, a cold and heartless man, the kind you go on marches wanting to take to The Hague.

The media in Kenya does not care, Kenyan Human Rights groups do not care, Modi visited your country very peacefully last year, your religious leaders do not care either, do you? Why march for Palestinians when you do not care about these Muslims? Are they any less Muslim on account of their being Indian?
